Matthew Stafford Makes Rams History vs. Raiders

Posted

Matthew Stafford has made Rams history once again. He now holds the record for most touchdown passes in franchise history. Stafford’s 155th touchdown pass on Sunday makes him the only player in recent history to hold the passing touchdown record for two different franchises.

Stafford beat out Roman Gabriel for the title, who threw 154 touchdown passes for the Rams in the 1960s.

The 11-yard strike to Puka Nacua in the second quarter of Sunday’s game helped the Rams defeat the Las Vegas Raiders. The Rams won the game 35-21.

“Catching touchdowns and throwing touchdowns isn’t a one-man job,” Stafford said after the game. “So many coaches, players, teammates just had so much to do with that, and I appreciate all those guys.”

Stafford spent 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, where he threw a franchise-record 282 touchdown passes before joining the Rams in 2021.

All three of Stafford’s passing touchdowns on Sunday came during the first half, which matched his career high for a single half. He completed 79% of passes, his highest completion rate in a game since 2018.

In another milestone on Sunday, Stafford surpassed former quarterback Jim Everett for the second-most completions in Rams history.

“It just means I’m old and played a long time, I think,” Stafford joked after the game.
